Curriculum Overview
It is sometimes assumed that qualifications achieved in an Alternative Provision (AP) setting are different from those gained in mainstream schools. This is not the case. Students studying in AP complete the same qualifications, sit the same examinations, and meet the same coursework requirements as students in mainstream education. The expectations for effort, commitment and achievement remain equally high.
At Ormiston Beachcroft Academy, our curriculum is designed to provide a balanced and engaging learning experience. It combines academic study with creative, practical and physical subjects so that students can develop a wide range of knowledge and skills while working towards their future goals.
Our core subjects include English Language, English Literature, Maths, and Science (Double Award), and Core Physical Education, which form the foundation of every student’s programme of study. Upon admission, pupils are given the opportunity to select their option subjects from three option blocks. This structure allows students to choose three subjects that best support their interests, strengths, and future pathway aspirations.
Alongside these core subjects, students also study a range of option subjects that allow them to explore their interests and develop practical and creative skills. Current subjects available include Art, Computing and Computer Science, Business, and Home Cooking Skills.
This curriculum is designed to give students a broad and balanced education, enabling them to gain recognised qualifications while developing practical skills and confidence for further education, training or employment.
