Satellite provision
Oak Wood
Ormiston Academies Trust is delighted to announce that its new Oak Wood provision, a satellite of Ormiston Beachcroft Academy, is now open. Located in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and serving learners across the biborough, Oak Wood will serve learners from Reception to Year 6. There is capacity for 20 learners in total, 10 with EHCPs; it will serve learners with a range of needs, primarily SEMH (Social, Emotional, Mental Health). Oak Wood has been commissioned and funded by the LA to provide additional capacity to local alternative educational provision.
The delivery model has been designed to be flexible, ambitious and personalised to meet the learners’ learning, social, emotional and mental health needs. Therapeutic input has been planned for including speech and language, occupational therapy alongside educational psychology.
Oak Wood provides an offer that allows all learners to be able to access the curriculum at the stage they are currently working at, whether that is below their age expected level, at, or beyond. We want all our learners to be able to have a good understanding of all the fundamental key areas in Reading, writing, spelling and grammar and Maths. We also intend for all our learners to be confident in exploring, investigating and being creative while developing creative thinking in history, geography, science. An important part of our curriculum will also be developing life skills, this will be delivered throughout the curriculum but also in cooking, PSHE, RSE, social skills. The Engagement Model will be used to support leaners working below Key Stage 1 level. SCERTS will be used to support learners’ communication, engagement and regulation.
Oak Wood is housed in a building extensively refurbished for alternative provision, funded by the local authority to meet evolving local needs. It is co-located with Avondale Park Primary School. Spaces have been designed to be sensory-friendly, welcoming and inclusive: diverse learning zones allow flexibility and support a range of learning preferences while room design facilitates collaboration and inclusivity.
